Major Risk Medical Insurance Program

Anthem Blue Cross has been a participating plan with California's Major Risk Medical Insurance Program since its inception. The Major Risk Medical Insurance Program offers subsidized coverage to Californians who are considered “high-risk” because of their medical conditions. These individuals are either medically uninsurable or are not able to obtain adequate coverage.

Healthy Families Program

The Healthy Families Program (HFP) provides low cost health, dental and vision coverage to uninsured children in low wage families. HFP members can choose between several health plans including Anthem Blue Cross to administer services.
Anthem Blue Cross has participated in the HFP network of plans since 1998. Children from low income families may qualify for the HFP. These families earn too much to qualify for no-cost- Medi-Cal. Anthem Blue Cross proudly offers no deductibles, small copayments for specific services and a vast network of providers to serve California children.

Leslie A. Margolin Named President of Blue Cross of California

WellPoint, Inc. today announced that Brian A. Sassi has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the company's Consumer Business Unit, which includes the Individual, Senior and State Sponsored (Medicaid) customer segments.
Sassi, formerly president of Blue Cross of California, replaces Joan Herman, who announced her plans last year to retire in 2008. Sassi will begin transitioning into his new role immediately and assume full responsibility on February 1.

Health Insurance Benefits: Should I Choose the HMO or PPO Plan?

Starting a new job means signing up for benefits. In terms of health insurance, this has usually boiled down to choosing either an HMO or PPO plan for us. I still have never been offered the option of a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account, even though I think it would be neat to have one.
